Science Summit: Making an Impact will support universities and research institutions in their strategies to achieve excellence in research and to deliver economic growth on an institutional, local and international level.

The Government responded to Sir Andrew Witty’s review by making a long term commitment to supporting universities in their mission to deliver economic growth. All too often ideas become delayed before they start to make an economic impact. How can research institutions increase collaboration, across international borders, disciplines and sectors, to speed up the process and to drive economic growth?

The outcomes of the Research Excellence Framework, the nationwide assessment of research quality in the UK, are due to be published this December. For the first time an emphasis on impact beyond academia has been included to demonstrate the wider benefits of research. How will institutions be able to benchmark outcomes from assessment and how will accountability of public investment be evaluated following the REF exercise?

Science Summit: Making an Impact is our second annual science policy event and will bring together a high level audience to tackle the biggest issues, opportunities and challenges facing science, technology and research institutions. The conference agenda is focused on the practical with interactive sessions, breakouts and whole audience feedback ensuring that real solutions are worked on throughout the day.
