  • Bio

I have had over 20 years experience in water and the water industry. After completion of a PhD at University of Leeds tracking Cryptosporidium in two catchments in Yorkshire I began work at Pipeline Developments Ltd in Manchester where I started as a lab technician looking at the impacts of pipe materials on water quality – cement liners, lead, contaminated land etc. I moved through the ranks there to be contract manager for a team of on site technicians carrying out independent audits on installation of PE pipe systems.

After a short spell working as logistics manager for Raleigh International in Ghana I moved to Sutton and East Surrey Water as a distribution engineer with particular responsibility for data and statistics, including leakage. During this time I was responsible for the production of the mains replacement proposals for the PR04 business planning process.

In May 2006 I joined Water UK as a policy co-ordinator with responsibility primarily for internal governance issues. I have since undertaken a wider role of Policy and Business Adviser in Water UK with particular interest in drinking water quality and public health. In addition I represent the UK on the Eureau EU1 expert group of water resource protection and drinking water and have a current interest in particular in European regulations, pharmaceuticals and shale gas.
