Lesley Kay joined HSIB in 2019 as deputy medical director, and became acting medical director at the beginning of 2022. She maintains clinical practice as a rheumatologist working in Newcastle upon Tyne with a special interest in axial spondyloarthritis. She has masters degrees in leadership (quality improvement) and in public health and is a GenerationQ Fellow with the Health Foundation. She has other roles including being National Clinical Lead for Rheumatology in the Getting It Right First Time programme, NHSE, and as vice-chair of the Northern Clinical Senate Council.
