Melanie trained as a physiotherapist, qualifying in 1982, working across the North West for a number of acute organisations. She specialised in musculoskeletal, progressing to a therapy manager post. During this time she led on the development of local outcome measures and a financial costing framework for the service. In 1999 she took a secondment opportunity into general NHS management, initially as a business manager and then into a planning role.

From early 2000 onwards she became involved in improvement/redesign initiatives, working with a number of methodologies across a variety of programmes. She moved to Salford Royal Foundation NHS Trust in 2009 as Service Reform Manager, joining the Salford Integrated Care Programme in early 2012. Melanie has worked on the programme since.
