Sarah Watson

Sarah is a learning disabled film maker and visual artist. Sarah is also the chair of Carousel’s Board of Trustees; leading meetings, meeting funders and advocating for learning disability arts.

Sarah first joined Carousel in 2008, becoming a member of the steering committee that plans, manages and delivers our award winning Oska Bright Film Festival.

Sarah’s first film Speech and Language was a winner of the ITV Fixers Award 2009. Following this she worked on a number of films at Carousel including Intelligent Commissioning, a commissioned film for Brighton and Hove Council, Paralympic Memories in partnership with Glyndebourne and Pallant House Gallery and Celebrities on Celluloid with Brighton and Hove Museums.

As a visual artists and photographer Sarah produces a range of images and illustrations and has a particular skill in portraiture. Her work is currently featured as part of Outside In, (http://www.outsidein.org.uk).

Sarah is a founder member of our Creative Minds initiative – a series of conferences across England that address barriers in the arts and creative industries to learning disabled artists and performers. Sarah also provides training and talks for a variety of organisations on how to engage learning disabled people and make services accessible. These include Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England.
