Terri Banks
  • Bio

Terri has worked in the NHS for almost 35 years, training as a Registered Nurse and then as a Midwife.
Terri started working as a Specialist Nurse for Sexual Exploitation in 2007 after the disappearance of 2 young girls (Charlene Downes and Paige Chivers) in Blackpool. During enquiries into their disappearances it was recognised that there were serious issues regarding young people being exploited, and a Multi-Agency Team. The Awaken Team was established.
Terri’s role was one of the first health roles dedicated to working with victims of exploitation in the UK and both she and her colleagues supported other areas to establish their own teams which were similar to the Awaken Team.
Terri has worked as a Named Nurse for Safeguarding both Children and Adults in a large acute trust before becoming the Head of Safeguarding in Lancashire.
Terri relocated to the Isle of Man in September 2021 into the role of Head of Safeguarding.
Terri has been a panel member on several Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews and Safeguarding Adult Reviews.
Terri sits on the Children and Adults Safeguarding Board

Terri received her Queen’s Nurse Award in 2022 for her work in Safeguarding.
