My name is Tinuola Gunwa. I am a doctor currently in a CAMHS run-through psychiatry training post.
I was born in Lagos Nigeria and immigrated to Dublin, Ireland at age 13 as an unaccompanied minor asylum seeker.
I attended St. Lawrence College Loughlinstown where I did my Irish Leaving Certificate and proceeded to Trinity College Dublin where I studied and graduated with a BSc Nursing degree. I went ahead to study medicine in All Saints University School of Medicine, Dominica; of which I spent two years in Chicago undertaking my clinical rotations before obtaining my MD in 2014.
My passion for Psychiatry and Clinical Education led me to further pursue a MSc in Psychiatry and a PGCert in Clinical Education. I am extremely passionate about the wellbeing of asylum seekers having walked in their shoes- I did my MSc Psychiatry dissertation on the ‘mental health needs of unaccompanied minors asylum seekers in the UK’
I am currently taking a break from my training to look after my family- I am an ardent advocate of a good work and family life balance.
