Stephen was Principal Lecturer in Neuroscience at Bristol UWE specialising in neurological disorders, principally in human movement. His interest in the biological basis of learning and helping his students become more effective learners led him to pedagogical research into online and digital learning. He has worked at London medical schools and more recently at Plymouth University, The Higher Education Academy (as Academic Lead for Online Learning) and Pearson UK, leading on studies of the impact of digital resources.
