Rozina Breen

Rozina Breen is head of north for BBC England. She is based in Leeds and responsible for bases stretching from Cumbria to South Yorkshire.

Previously, Rozina was head of news at BBC Radio 5 Live, running the largest network newsroom outside of London. She spent more than a decade as a journalist with BBC Current Affairs Radio and, before joining 5 Live, Rozina was a Digital Editor for the BBC World Service. She was managing editor of BBC Radio Leeds for six years.

In her role at 5 Live, Rozina oversaw all News programming, including breaking and rolling news. She created 5 Live’s Digital Pilots team whose aim is to tell the stories of younger, northern women on Digital and Radio. She oversaw major events such as 5 Live’s Mum’s Takeover in Blackpool and the Sex Takeover in Sunderland. Rozina also commissioned The Sista Collective, the BBC’s first homegrown podcast led and hosted by black British women.

Rozina believes in democratising the newsroom, diversifying the lens of journalism and delivering a people-led News agenda.

Rozina chairs the assessments for BBC News’ Journalism Trainee Scheme, which aims to bring diverse talent into the BBC’s newsrooms. She was previously a lecturer at Leeds Trinity University.
