Steve is strategic lead for the design, co-ordination and delivery of the ‘Manchester Future Cities’ programme in collaboration with a range of key private, public and academic partners. He led the design of Manchester’s successful €24m EU Lighthouse submission -Triangulum, for which he is programme director and the £10m UK Internet of Things City Demonstrator – CityVerve. He has led and secured a number of strategic relationships with China, leading work on the EU-China Smart City Forum as well as establishing joint collaboration projects with Digital China and Wuhan. He has held a number of external positions, advising both UK Government and the European Commission on their respective smart city initiatives.

Previously, he worked at the New Economy where he was Head of Low Carbon Economy for five years, during which time he secured Greater Manchester as the UK’s first Low Carbon Economic Area for the Built Environment as well as establishing a joint venture with the Green Investment Bank. He has also spent time in private sector consultancy working on a range of economic development projects for a broad global client base and managed sustainable regeneration projects in Bankside and Peckham whilst at the London Borough of Southwark.

He studied Geography at the University of Sheffield and holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, London. He is a Knowledge Research Fellow at the University of Manchester and a member of the UK City Standards Institute Board.

He lives in Manchester.
