Ciara Lawrence is a person with a learning disability and currently works for the UK Leading learning disability charity Mencap in the Communications, Advocacy and Activism Directorate Team as Engagement Lead and has worked for Mencap for over 22 years.
She has had lots of different jobs in the organisation over that time. These include working in Mencap’s employment service, in Mencap’s Reception Facilities Team, Mencap’s Campaigns and activism Team, Mencap’s fundraising events team and their Celebrity Media PR team.

Outside of Mencap, Ciara is a Trustee for the learning disability charity The Sunnybank Trust for adults who have a learning disability. She also has another Trustee role with Head 2 Head Sensory Theatre.

Other organisations Ciara has volunteer roles with are, Ambassador for Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and is a Get Lippy Campaign Ambassador for the Gynaecological cancer awareness charity The Eve Appeal and recently became an ambassador for gynae cancer awareness charity Grace Women. Ciara is also a patron for Dance Syndrome and Include.org

Ciara is very personally and professionally passionate about challenging society’s negative views and perceptions and attitudes about people with a learning disability like her. One of the ways Ciara does this is through her podcast series Ciara’s Pink Sparkle Podcast that she started during the Coronavirus pandemic in 2021. Some of her recent interview guests have been Victoria Derbyshire, Lorraine Kelly, Jeremy Vine and Penny Mordaunt MP.

In her personal life, Ciara has been married for 10 years to her husband Mark. In any spare time that Ciara has, she like to sing and spend time with her family as they are important to her.
