Liam Barnes is the founder and Trustee Chair of the Laura Hyde Foundation, the UK’s only charity that is dedicated to positively changing the landscape of mental health and wellbeing for our entire emergency services.

Their mission statement focuses on three core elements:

  • Raise awareness of the mental health challenges facing the emergency services
  • Drive the bespoke change needed to the mental health support structures for this sector
  • De-stigmatise the conversation around mental health within the uniformed and medical emergency services

Liam set the charity up in March 2018 in memory of his cousin Laura who tragically took her own life in 2016 due to mental health issues. Laura was a royal naval nurse that worked across the south-west region at Bristol and Derriford hospitals to name but a few.

It was his and the wider families wish to ensure that her legacy lived on by helping others who may find themselves in the same situation as she did and provide robust care for them.

Since their inception, the Laura Hyde Foundation have grown to a truly national charity delivering support to thousands of individuals whilst working closely with fellow partners and organisations to deliver the required changes.
